I never did know what widdershins meant, but most Queen's-English speakers use the term "anti-clockwise," and find "counterclockwise" to be as contrary as I find "anti-clockwise," even though both terms are perfectly good and understandable as long as you know in which direction a clock runs.
"anti-clockwise" sounds too...I dunno, harsh to me.
